"Great events have incalculable results."
Victor Hugo
A visceral retelling of The Hunchback of Notre Dame; brought to life for the twenty first century amidst the shadows of St George's Cathedral.
Paris is a city in turmoil. The crusades have ended, leaving uncertainty and unrest in their wake: they won, but at what cost? Struggling for faith; a disillusioned high priest and a returned war hero collude to restore Paris to its former glory. But when a wave of refugees brings the effervescent Esmerelda within Parisian walls, time-honoured truths are challenged, opening dangerous new doors. The Name That Destroyed Us is a new 60 minute physical theatre epic, a bittersweet inquiry on the tragedy of love and a turbulent journey in search of something to believe in. This production is still in creative development. Developed in association with St Georges Cathedral and with the support of Propel Youth Arts. Images by Jamie Breen @ Very Serious |
